Winter brings wonderful things like Christmas, eggnog, and snow. It also brings the problem of dry skin! But, don’t despair! I have the easiest body scrub recipe that anyone can make! I’ve tried different recipes for body scrubs and this one I’ve tweaked for sensitive skin like mine.
Sensitive skin can still get dry, so we are starting with warmed/liquified organic coconut oil. If you have REALLY sensitive skin then use Almond oil instead. It’s a lighter oil that works just as good and is great for your skin too! It’s all about what works for you! My skin does pretty well with the coconut oil in the winter, in the summer I tend to change to almond oil. Just listen to your skin & your body. Add one cup of organic coconut milk to your oil.
Next, you’re going to take your bowl of coconut oil/milk and start scooping brown sugar into it. You want it to start soaking up the oil & milk so it has a thick, but creamy consistency. If I am making a whole jar, I use about half a bag of brown sugar, about 1 pound. I then stir it up good until all the clumps are gone. At this time check the consistency again. You can always add more coconut milk to it to thin it out or more brown sugar to it to thicken it up. It’s your scrub so make it your own!
Want to add a little scent to your scrub? Just add your favorite essential oil like lavender, grapefruit, or absolute rose. If you plan to use it specifically for a foot scrub you can add tea tree, eucalyptus or rosemary essential oil. I wouldn’t recommend these for the rest of your body. You could make a separate batch if you decide to do that and have a foot scrub and a body scrub. The essential oils like tea tree, eucalyptus and rosemary could burn a little in the more sensitive areas.
Just add about 8-10 drops of the essential oil of your choosing. I don’t recommend using this on your face unless your skin handles coconut oil well. It’s a little too thick for me. I stick to using almond oil on my face.
1 tbsp. Organic Virgin Coconut Oil
1 cup Unsweetened Coconut Milk
1lb Organic Brown Sugar
8 drops of essential oil of your choosing (optional)
After you’ve gotten your consistency, your scent (if you want one);then you are ready to go. You can take a mason jar or any other small glass container around that size and pour or funnel the scrub into the container. Mason jars are so cute and everyone loves them! It is Christmas time! Who doesn’t want to save a little money and still give a thoughtful gift? I know I would love this as a gift. Just tie some ribbon around the lid or throw a bow on top of it. You can also find a free label maker online to put cute labels on them for your family and friends! Then you can personalize them and put whatever you want on there! Make sure you make a batch for yourself as well! You deserve to be pampered and this scrub will make your skin feel silky smooth.
Exfoliating in the winter time is important for healthy skin. Your skin is constantly shedding and it builds up, causing your skin to look older and dull. To get rid of this, just grab about a tablespoon at a time of your homemade Brown Sugar & Coconut Body scrub and start gently scrubbing your skin in circular motions. I do this in the bath or shower for easy clean up. Starting at my arms and working down my body, particularly focusing on elbows, knees, legs, and feet, but make sure you get a light scrub all over from your chest down. Mix it up in the kitchen and have your silky soft skin in time for Christmas!
